The NYS Education Department has put together a committee of parents and teachers to review each of the learning standards from PreK to 12th grade.
According to their site http://www.nysed.gov/aimhighny Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia writes:
“This spring, the next phase of review began with the formation of the ELA and Mathematics Standards Review Committees. The Committees are now reviewing each standard for every grade level for ELA and math and the feedback from the online survey. Once their review is complete, they will recommend possible revisions and additions to the standards.
You can find more information about the standards review, including an updated timeline and a map showing the geographical representation on the Standards Review Committees, here: AIMHighNY Standards Review Update: June 7, 2016.
If you would like to send feedback or questions about the New York Common Core Standards review process, please send comments by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.”
At UFT Solidarity, transparency is paramount, especially when it comes to issues that will affect many. We made a Freedom of Information request for the actual names of the review committee members and are sharing the names below. They are listed here and we will be following up with their findings and recommendations.
