If you were not a member of the UFT, but still read the NY Teacher, you would think that everything is fine and dandy for UFT members on a local level.
There are keywords that will not show up in searches for news on the UFT’s website.
For example try to look up these words:
Variations of “principal abuse”
“discontinued teacher” etc.
You’ll have almost no return links to those searches. Is it because those issues do not exist, or is it because our UFT leadership follows the ways of a “company union” that works for the benefit of the employer, and not the member? Click the link and read on how a company union operates.
Anytime a resolution is raised, to fight back against abusive administrators (part of the CSA union), UFT Assistant Secretary Leroy Barr stands up to defeat that motion. It’s almost as if he is an extension of Ernie Logan (CSA President). Even UFT district reps are hard to distinguish from school administrators sometimes.
Not only does the NY Teacher not accurately report what members go through, but they went as far to erase older stories they used to post. See one here found only through an internet archive site:

When can we expect the UFT leadership to start acting like they work for the members that pay them the six figure salaries? Unfortunately, the answer doesn’t seem to be anytime soon. Only with consistent, and growing opposition can we change the UFT.
Join UFT Solidarity caucus, share our links and articles on social media, as well as your schools. We are calling out our union. Let’s see if they listen. If not, then we get louder.
