Over 11,000 NYS parents have used their smartphones to opt out.

Oh, if we had a penny for each…!

Parents across New York State are using their smartphone to make a smart decision, REFUSE THE TESTS. By entering a school name, their information and what tests they are refusing their children to take, parents can spend less than a minute to help change a broken system and invalidate these standardized tests.

Originally the optthemout.com was only for NYC schools, a district that only had roughly 7,900 opt outs in 2015. More than 250,000 opted out across New York state. More and more parents from places like West Babylon, Port Jefferson, and Schenectady were emailing UFT Solidarity asking us to expand. We got to work and our programmer came through. All New York States were included based on a list acquired from NYSED. We also translated the site to Spanish and have passed leaflets out to various parts of NYC with low opt out numbers, such as Stapleton, Staten Island.

We thank the many parent and educator groups that have paved the way to make opt-out/refusal a reality and look forward to working alongside them on this initiative. Let’s increase the number of refusals and invalidate these tests.
