POSTPONED- Association for Union Democracy Conference: Impediments to Running for Union Office

This event has been postponed

UFT Solidarity may have lost the 2016 UFT elections, but we haven’t stopped fighting for a more democratic union, that actually supports its members (and not leaderships’ pockets). We launched 16 election complaints that the UFT leadership obviously denied. The American Federation of Teachers (AFT), our national union, is reviewing our appeal now. Once they make a decision, we will take the very serious allegations to the US Department of Labor. We don’t stop fighting for our group’s mission.

In the meantime, the Association for Union Democracy has asked us to participate and speak at their annual conference. UFT Presidential candidate Francesco Portelos will be discussing the many issues with UFT decmocracy Please consider attending and or purchasing invaluable union democracy material at uniondemocracy.org

AUD 2017 Conference
Union rules that act as impediments to running for office:
Are they legal? How can you beat them?

AUD’s 2017 conference will bring together unionists to discuss the variety of union rules and requirements that can and often do prevent reformers from running for office or mounting successful campaigns. These include meeting attendance rules, requirements to obtain signatures in order to be nominated, requirements to earn designation as a slate, continuous good standing requirements, and more. Speakers at our conference will include several candidates for local office. Each will discuss the obstacles they encountered. We will then have a presentation by representatives from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Labor Management Standards, New York District, on these same rules, and their legality. There will be a question and answer session.
